Thanksgiving With Your Pets
Holiday season has begun! And, rumor has it, your dogs are counting down the seconds to all the wonderful food prepared for the day as well as the leftovers to come! Mutts & Co has some great ideas to make this a memorable one for the 4-legged gang! We have recipes, toys, tasty treats and some fun to share!
Not everything we consume is good for our pups. Please take a moment to look over the following guidelines on what is good and not so good to share with our fur kids.
- Lean Turkey
- Sweet potatoes
- Cranberries (before adding all the sugary
Here are some healthy alternatives to make for the gang that
uses some of the food you will already have on hand for the day. (We would love
to take credit for the awesome recipes, but we had a little help from our
blogger friends @17apart.
Thanksgiving Doggy Meatballs- http://www.gonetothesnowdogs.com/diythanksgivingmeatballs/
Ingredients1 Pound of Ground Turkey
1/2 cup of chopped cranberries
1 Cup of green beans (drained)
1 Cup of Bread Crumbs
Directions: Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large bowl mix together ground turkey, cranberries, green beans, and half of your bread crumbs. Slowly add the remaining bread crumbs and continue to mix together until everything is sticking together well. Next, roll the mixture into meatballs! Place them on your cookie sheet, and bake them for 20 - 30 minutes.
Frozen Turkey Dinner Treats- https://www.17apart.com/2014/07/frozen-turkey-dinner-natural-dog-treats.html
Here's what you'll need:
tray or mold
- Turkey broth
- Sweet potato,
softened and chunked
Please feel free to interpret
these ingredients loosely — they are super simple to swap and substitute. This
is a very simple recipe to make and helps get rid of leftovers. You could mash
the potatoes and peas or completely swap in the different dog-friendly
vegetables you have on hand (carrots, squash and green beans are
all healthy options). When it comes to the broth, turkey, chicken, beef and
vegetable varieties will all work — and while the broth adds that nice extra
flavor and softer frozen consistency for your pooch, water would also work as a
substitute. Basically, it's all about what's easiest for you to toss in,
because your pup is going to love these!
Making treats is great in theory, but the day can get hectic and time can run short. For those moments, Mutts & Co has the perfect alternative from Earth Animal: The Earth Animal No-Hide Holiday Feast chew.
Take note that an ingredient in these chews is Bromelain. Bromelain
is found in the stem and juice of the pineapple. It supports healthy skin and
healing. (Who knew the pineapple does more than just taste really good?)
All of the holiday activity can be stressful on a pup, so supplying them with fun toys can be a great distraction. Check out this super cute and durable Turkey toy from Tuffys.
We cannot forget the meaning behind the day of Thanksgiving … gratitude. And we are grateful to all of our rescue and wellness partners. Please stop in a store and purchase one of our Barksgiving dinners for your pup! All proceeds will be making their way to two of the many teams we are grateful for. Check out their sites to learn more about the great things they are doing for the rescue community.
